Hi, Dilip.

I teach Literature at university to EFL teachers-to-be.

You can read this post of a talk I gave on how I use the web:
http://roomown.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/of-mouse-and-book-2009-faap...

I would be more than happy to answer any questions and could certainly profit from your feedback.
Hi Mariel,
Your presentation is wonderful. It will be useful to me in my classroom. I want to know if you have used Moodle or not. Secndly for the 'bar-graph' of student's participation, which web tool is used?
The task based activities devised by you are very good. I would say, this is the first comprehensive presentation I have seen on use of technology for teaching literature. There's lot of thinkgs for teaching ESL/EFL, but rarely we get smthing on literature & technology. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Dilip.

I have never used Moodle as a teacher, only as a student, and I didn't quite like it. The Management area you saw (including the bar-graph) corresponds to a paid VLE system that the Ministry of Education provides for state colleges of teacher education in Argentina. As for open, free alternatives, I have tried Dokeos. No bar-graph but percentages there, and unless you use it with your own hosting, space can be a little limited.

In terms of social networking, I was fully invested in Ning, so now I'm looking for alternatives. You mention you have used grou.ps. Would you recommend it?

I have been looking at some of your work on Wikieducators and your blog. Congrats! Perhaps we might come up with some collaborative project with our literature students? I've started to follow you on Twitter, and here's my Linked In profile http://ar.linkedin.com/in/marielamez
There are some alternative tools out there if used in combination.

At present I use myngle and wikispaces to teach some of my lessons. They do not have the full functionality of moodle.
I ahve tried using facebook to combine social and lesson networking, but see that discussions are very rarely used, more the wall.
Even with my social group So Social, and my teachers group LELTA.

Wikispaces has the nice advantage that you can create pages and spaces for specific students, or use a home page combined with discussions etc.

I am not sure if you teach literature with an element of oral presentation (had this at college myself).

You may find www.kantalk.com useful for this.

Also as a tool a Voice Online Recorder might be worth considering. The best usage I have seen thus far of that in thread discussions is at

www.english-tet.net

Not Lit. based but you can see the application of the technology.

Like I said not sure if these can help you, if the curriculum has no oral element or you can not embed VOR into an existing system.

Thanks Mariel,
I have not used Dokeos. Will use and share my experience. I have started using grou.ps. I think it is good option if NING goes premium. Moodle is a bit difficult and complicated for novice users. But its features are very useful. Though I have yet to explore it fully.
Your linkdIN page is in argentinian language. So I cannot find what to click to be your friend or follow you.
It is good idea to have collaborative project. I look forward to have some such things in future.
Keep sharing and thanks.

Thanks for comments, Dilip. I'm already following you on Twitter, and requested frienship on this Ning and LinkedIn (I see my own profile in English there, so it's weird you should see them in Spanish).
Let's keep sharing.
