KEYNOTE Dr. Hayo Reinders: The Effects of Aural Input Enhancement On L2 Acquisition through Mobile Learning

Recording (53min):

There is a great deal of talk about the potential benefits of mobile technology for learning but still relatively little is known about its impact on second language acquisition. In this presentation I will report on a recent study into the use of audiobooks on mobile phones for the practice of extensive listening skills. Specifically I investigated the effects of aural input enhancement (the directing of learners’ attention to a specific linguistic form in an otherwise meaning-oriented context) on participants’ acquisition of the English passive structure. I will discuss some of the key findings and implications of this study.

Dr. Hayo Reinders ( is TESOL Professor and Director of the doctoral program at Anaheim University in the United States and visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching. His most recent books are on teacher autonomy, teaching methodologies, and second language acquisition and he edits a book series on ‘New Language Learning and Teaching Environments’ for Palgrave Macmillan.
