Argentina does not belong to the first world. My country is young and considered a developing one. The Argentinian government has launched projects to make technology available to high school students and in this way narrow the digital gap and democratise education, but all that glitters is not gold and some inconveniences have appeared. Some teachers include technology in their classes naturally, others do not. My presentation will describe how technology is being included in my country, what can we do as IT educational counselors to minimise inconveniences and help the educational community on this topic in developing countries with similar situations.

Nelba Quintana is a university professor of English Language and Literature with postgraduate degrees on IT applied to education. She is currently the IT coordinator at the School of Languages of the National University of La Plata, Argentina and a free-lance IT educational counselor. Together with Jennifer Verschoor, she was awarded as a full scholarship recipient to attend the WorldCALL 2008 about "Technology applied to the Language Learning" . She is one of the founding members of ARCALL (CALL Argentina). Her blog "English Virtual Community" has been nominated several times in the category of Language Technology by bab.la and Lexicophiles. Dear Nelba,

I totally agree with you when you mention this idea: "some teachers include technology in their classes naturally". From my experience as a researcher in this field and coordinator of UAM-TeLL, one of the related issues still pending on further development is precisely concerned with methodology and the way learners may learn in a technology enhanced environment.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

Kind regards,

M. Dolores Ramirez-Verdugo
